At the national level, fires have been a growing phenomenon this year. In the first four months of 2021, the hectares burned grew 44% compared to the same period in 2020.
An analysis based on data from the National Forestry Commission (Conafor) shows that the states most affected at the beginning of the year were Nuevo León, Guerrero, Oaxaca, Chiapas and Chihuahua.
The case of Nuevo León stands out, in which the hectares burned increased 3.444% between January and April compared to the same months last year. By the beginning of June, the fire had already affected 32,712 hectares in that entity, the highest state record in that period.
