Journalism Fundamentals CN
Causa Natura Periodismo (CN Journalism) is an unconventional media outlet that aims to contribute to citizens' right to be informed about environmental and natural resource issues.
CN Journalism offers verified information and allows for a plurality of viewpoints on topics of public interest, within the framework of journalistic ethics.
This media outlet includes voices in its publications that do not necessarily coincide with the positions and recommendations of Causa Natura as a think tank.
CN Journalism carries out its work under the following premises:
- Journalism allows us to highlight situations that affect the environment and natural resources.
- The dissemination of verified information and data contributes to greater citizen participation in promoting the changes necessary to ensure its conservation and better use.
- We practice critical journalism, considering different perspectives, whether or not they are compatible with Causa Natura's institutional stance.
- We strive to offer a variety of perspectives on environmental issues and solutions in our content.
- We rely on evidence to help clarify environmental issues.
In this way, CN Journalism will comply with journalistic standards in the topics it addresses, while readers will know what we believe in a transparent manner.
CN Journalism and CN Research Relationship
Both CN Journalism and CN Research recognize the importance of data and evidence in the analyses they conduct and the information they disseminate. Thus, although they are distinct areas, data and evidence are constantly shared among all members of Causa Natura, except in cases involving the safety of sources.
Areas responsible for publication
CN Journalism articles are written by the journalism team, and CN Research articles are written by the research team. For the public, articles are tagged by subject area and author so that readers can understand the nature of the information.
Differences between articles published by CN Journalism and those published by CN Research
Each area has different working methodologies. Although we share the use of reliable data to portray issues, CN Journalism limits itself to reporting the facts and does not make recommendations or draw conclusions. CN Research does present conclusions and recommendations aimed primarily at decision-makers and actors considered relevant in the management of natural resources.
What CN Journalism does not do
- Publish unfounded information.
- Publishing denialist opinions without clarifying them based on scientific evidence.
- Publishing information that incites hatred.
- Breaking with journalistic ethics in the handling of information and sources.
What CN Journalism does do
- We base our decisions on facts.
- We verify the information we publish.
- We seek diverse voices.
- We use databases to create stories.
- We adhere to the standards of journalistic ethics.
Publication of opinions on the Causa Natura communication platform
Both guests and researchers at Causa Natura regularly write opinion pieces. These are duly labeled so that readers know that they represent the opinion of the person who signed the article.
In the case of CN Journalism, opinion pieces are not part of its content offering, whose work is limited to reporting.
