In early December, Commissioner Elenes announced the Fisheries Regularization Campaign with the objective of legally regulating fishermen who have not had permits. In view of this announcement, it will be essential that the result of this regularization are improvements in fisheries management and a more equitable distribution of fishing rights without increasing the fishing effort of fisheries at the limit of exploitation or already overfished.

As of November 2020, 343 new permits, 3,860 extensions and 158 modifications to existing permits had been granted. With this this year there are about 12,680 permits in force. Visit Fishing Data: Fishing Permits to view these permissions.

1 These permissions were made transparent through requests from Information provided by The team of Causa Natura from 2018 to 2020. Visit fishing for data to consult them

.

2 In accordance with Article 44 of the General Fisheries and Aquaculture Act Sustainable, the Number of permits and their assignment of species in recovery or overexploitation must take into account the National Fisheries Charter
