Operations in Protected Natural Areas with Marine-Coastal Ecosystems carried out by the Federal Attorney's Office for Environmental Protection (PROFEPA) fell 21.3% in 2020 compared to 2019.
In this way, operations not only fell in a year in
which the pandemic impacted Mexico, but they continued the downward trend over the
past six years, according to a request for
information obtained by Causa Natura. If we compare the number of
operations in 2020 with those carried out in 2015, the drop is 69.7%.
Over the past six years, authorities have prioritized the Upper Gulf of California with 14.7% of all operations; followed by the Centla Swamps, 6.8%; El Vizcaíno, 6.7%; Loreto Bay, 5.3%; and Escobilla Beach, 4.5%.
