Samuel Cardona Garza, a lawyer and a passionate environmental justice activist, was found alive this Tuesday, October 27, two weeks after news of his last whereabouts came out, on October 13, when he left his home in Monterrey, Nuevo León.
The One River in the River and Northeast Fracking Assembly reported that their partner Samuel Cardona Garza was found alive. Both organizations thanked the individuals, groups, organizations, media and authorities who participated in their search, disseminated their file and accompanied the community during the days of uncertainty.
This Monday and Tuesday, the organizations released the lawyer's search form, posters and a statement on social networks to report that October 13 was the last time he was seen. Four days later, on October 17, a colleague in the movement managed to communicate with him through a WhatsApp call. During that conversation, Samuel remarked that he had unfinished business to attend to and that they would soon see each other again. Since then, his colleagues had been unable to establish contact with him.
The Assembly noted that, although Samuel was absent for a few days because of his work as a lawyer, they had never lost communication with him for such a long period.
The Attorney General's Office of Nuevo León maintained contact with his family, according to the group's bulletin, in which they demanded immediate action and constant updates on the progress of the search. It was finally located.

Who is Samuel Cardona Garza?
Samuel is 34 years old and is a person who, in addition to promoting legal resources to protect the Santa Catarina River, tends to welcome those who approach the movement with warmth, share food and offer them support, say his colleagues and colleagues.
“He is an extremely warm person who welcomes everyone who wants to get involved. Everyone knows him around here. He is a great mediator”, describe his colleagues, who have known him since joining the group in 2023.
The defense of the Santa Catarina River has been one of the axes of his career. Samuel has participated in legal actions against infrastructure projects that threaten the riverbed and its environment, including the elevated viaduct projected over the river and the Rompepicos dam in its upper basin.
It has also accompanied the defense of Libertad Park as a neighborhood meeting space and is currently participating in the fight against hydraulic fracturing, known as fracking.
“It adds up to everything out of conviction. He is not interested in attention. He always brings food to share,” they say.
In addition to his work as a lawyer, he uses his knowledge of photography and drone management, tools he uses to document land conditions and gather evidence for legal proceedings. His colleagues call him “Inspector Gadget” because of the number of devices and devices he carries with him to facilitate collective work.
In an affectionate tone, they describe him as “mustachioed and super angry”, someone with whom they argue and joke while sharing the tasks of the organization. “He's courageous. Sign all our offices,” they say. “He's very generous. We think that's too much. He doesn't care so much about him, but the good thing is that we do,” his colleagues say.
