On June 13, the Nineteenth Meeting of the State
Council for Fisheries and Aquaculture of the State of Baja California was held, also
established as a Special Subcommittee on Fisheries and Aquaculture, an auxiliary body of the State Development Committee.
The assembly was attended, as counselors, by representatives of the State
government, the productive sector, the
product system committees, other organizations related to the sector, as well as the academy.
Among the points discussed at the meeting are:
a) Reactivation of product systems in the state of Baja
California, such as hedgehogs, smaller pelagics, abalone, squid, farmed
shrimp, oyster, as well as the intention to create the shark or larger pelagic product system.
b) Establishment of the Baja
California State Lobster Subcommittee, on which the most suitable conditions
for the fishery were discussed, including zoning and technical recommendations
such as legal sizing and sealing to be integrated into lobster regulations.
c) Establishment of the Fisheries and
Aquaculture Management Committees in the State of Baja California, such as that of curvina
Golfina, about which the delimitation of a polygon was discussed
on a map to regulate and define the area, and the seabed fishery for which it was expressed has already been zoned.
d) Other general issues such as the importance of consulting the fishing
sector in the pronouncement of protected natural areas and
on the sustainability of lobster, for which purpose it seeks to
increase the prices of this fishery.
