Meanwhile, 40% of the respondents answered that they would “possibly” buy more often because of this cause and 6% that they were indifferent to them.
The survey conducted by the research center provides an overview of consumer decisions in this type of product by asking more than 1,400 people in 20 main metropolises in Mexico.
A breakdown by metropolis of the survey shows that Ensenada (75%), Querétaro (72%) and Ciudad Juárez (71.4%) lead the list of cities where more consumers answered that they would buy these products more often if they knew how they were caught and where they came from.
The exercise showed that customers mainly value “fresh and quality products” (44.54%) among the reasons for increasing the consumption of fish and seafood; while price and environmental responsibility were the primary reason for 33.17% and 22.17% of the respondents, respectively.
Although the above percentages correspond to the national average. Cancun, León and Querétaro equated the importance of environmental responsibility with fresh produce.
According to the survey, it is baby boomers, the oldest generational group, who place the greatest importance on supermarkets providing this information. Although the differences in responses between different age groups are very small.
The responses were collected between February and March of this year. The survey has 95% confidence and a 5% margin of error. You can check it out in full below.
